Dangers in Cyberspace is Focus of ICT Roadshow Youth Forum

BRADES, Montserrat – The dangers lurking in cyberspace for our young people will be the main focus of the two Youth Forums scheduled as part of the ICT Roadshow Montserrat, which takes place from April 21 to 23, 2010 at the Montserrat Cultural Centre.

According to Nerissa Golden, Director of Information & Communications the youth forum on Thursday morning is open to students attending all of the primary schools and runs from 9am to 11:30am. On Friday, the youth forum for post primary students will begin at 1:30 until 4:30pm. Both forums are being sponsored by the Montserrat Development Corporation.

The presenters include Bevil Wooding, the Chief Knowledge Officer for the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU). A video presentation highlighting how important it is for young people using the internet to be aware of where they put private information and befriending strangers online will be shown in both sessions.

Post primary students will also be given a practical lesson of “How to make a Podcast.”

A podcast is a series of digital media files (either audio or video) that are released episodically and often downloaded through the web. It is hoped that following the training more students will use this is a way to share their ideas, stories and views with the rest of the world.

The ICT Roadshow Montserrat is part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) and is being hosted in collaboration with the Government of Montserrat, with the support of WINAIR, LIME, Royal Bank of Canada, and the Bank of Montserrat.
