Coach Joshua AndersonBRADES, Montserrat – Montserrat is preparing to host the first Reach One Teach One- Building Bridges to Success charity basketball camp this summer.

The basketball camp is being organised by the Warren Cassell Foundation in association with media group MC Media Inc, UK based sports agency Chances For All Sports and with the support of the Government of Montserrat.

The camp is expected to attract over 30 of the island’s basketball players aged between six `to 23 for daily training sessions with two top USA college basketball coaches.

Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Jermaine Wade who is spearheading the project on behalf of the Government of Montserrat said he welcomed the initiative taken by the Warren Cassell Foundation (WCF) and MC Media Inc. and is pleased to be a partner in the camp which will encourage the development of the island’s basketball athletes.

Southern Ohio standout coach David Shoemaker will be the camp director and has selected another Ohio native Joshua Anderson to be his coaching partner for the one week camp which will run from the 16th to 20th August.

Coach Shoemaker explains, “The camp will not only provide insight and knowledge into the game of basketball, but will also provide life skills that the campers can carry into the future. The camp is sure to be a rewarding experience for both campers and coaches alike.”

Coaches Shoemaker and Anderson will also be taking a look at some of the older talent with a view to assessing their potential for possible basketball scholarships at the collegiate level in the USA.

Spokesperson for the Warren Cassell Foundation Dr. Sheron Burns says “WCF’s goal is to foster the development of citizens who are equipped with the life skills necessary to ensure the sustainability of Montserrat, the region and our world. Through this camp the participants will have opportunities to develop and enhance their critical thinking, problem solving and team building capabilities.”

The camp sessions will focus on skills development which will help campers to strengthen the fundamentals of the game, in ball handling and dribbling, defense, team and individual skills, offense, shooting and rebounding and feature motivational sessions by the coaches. Like any basketball camp, all the fundamentals of the game will be stressed in every drill throughout every station, contest, and game.

MC Media Inc has been organizing an annual summer basketball camp on the Island of St. Kitts for five years with several USA basketball coaches, former NBA and WNBA players delivering the sessions.
