Half holidays for Montserrat public servants to pay respects to national heroes Joseph Meade and Arrow

BRADES, Montserrat – The Executive Council of Montserrat has approved two privileged half holidays for public servants to attend the funeral services for Joseph H. Meade and Alphonsus “Arrow” Cassell MBE.

Mr. Meade’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 28 at 2pm at the St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Lookout.  Former Speaker of the House, Joseph H. Meade was a teacher who “championed the rights of young people,” remarked St. Augustine School Principal Ms. Anne Marie Dewar on Monday.

Schools and banks on the island also plan to honor the shortened work days to allow staff and students to attend the funerals. They will close at noon on Tuesday and Friday. The St. Augustine School will be closed on Friday to honor Arrow who was one of the school’s benefactors.
