OLVESTON, Montserrat – Dramatist and poet Chadd Cumberbatch will perform for one night only at Olveston House on Wednesday, July 31, 2013.
Cumberbatch, who is presently completing a double major in Theatre Arts and Carnival Studies at the University of the West Indies, said he is looking forward to being back on Montserrat to read some new work and also selections from his book Ya Ya Surfeit.
Although the event is free, a collection will be picked up to enable Chadd to complete an assignment. “This is my final project called Wire Dance and it replaces doing a thesis,” the artist explained. “The project takes me into a community to teach them the art of wire bending as it relates to costume making for festival, fashion, art and performance.”
Chadd is an award-winning poet and playwright and has become a sort after set and costume designer in Trinidad & Tobago. UWI recently tapped him to be a part of a four-person team conducting a five-day intensive training in lighting and stage management in Suriname, ahead of the CARIFESTA activities this August.
As spaces will be limited, those planning to attend should reserve a seat by calling Olveston House at 491-3942 or 491-5210. Bring a generous donation to support Chadd’s school project.
The reading begins at 8pm.
