BRADES, Montserrat – This Saturday, December 14, 2013, the Montserrat Public Library will brighten up with the launch of Island Days, the first children’s book by Nerissa Golden.
Island Days is described as a poetic collection of memories of growing up on Montserrat and around the Caribbean and was colourfully illustrated by Trinidad-based graphics designer Kathryn Duncan. The 32-page book tells the story of Max and Grace who live with their grandmother and highlights seven special events common to many Caribbean islands.
“The construction of the book covers a range of themes that include family, fun, religion and festival. It brought back reminders of going to the market to buy produce with my very own grandmother and the lovely times we had as children,” says Sonja Smith, Librarian at the Montserrat Public Library.
“We look forward to seeing all of the children and adults as well at the library from 10:30am to listen and be a part of the book launch,” Smith added.
The author says she is looking forward to hosting Saturday’s reading party for Island Days where she will also be able to acknowledge the support of several local entities which allowed her to complete the project.
