Golf Tourney and Auction in Aid of the Animal Shelter

maps-flyerSALEM, Montserrat – The Montserrat Animal Protection Society (MAPS) is hosting a Silent Auction this weekend and a Golf Tournament next week to benefit the island’s only animal shelter.

According to Pamela Holley, Treasurer of MAPS, all of the fundraising activities such as Trivia Night in January and the upcoming Auction and Golf Tournament “help to support our function as a shelter for abandoned and abused dogs and cats on Montserrat.”

Holley said there were many costs related to running an animal shelter including the spay and neutering of animals, veterinary and preventative health care and the daily meals and salary for the shelter manager.

Currently there are 18 animals at the facility, which is located in Salem, near the Montserrat Community College. All of the shelter’s operational expenses are managed through private donations and the fundraising endeavours with no assistance from the government.

The Silent Auction will be held at Olveston House on Saturday, March 7. Viewing of the items is from 5 to 6PM. The LIVE Auction begins at 6PM and ends at 8PM.

Items to be auctioned include two Fly Montserrat return tickets to Anguilla, MVO Helicopter Island Tour for two, restuarant dinners, jewellery, plants and more.

The Second Annual MAPS invitational Golf Tournament takes place on Friday, March 13 from 10AM at the Collins Park Golf Course in Old Towne. Entry fee is $50.00 EC per person. As space is limited, only the first 52 golfers who register and pay the entry fee will be able to compete.

Holley says participants need not be pro golfers but ready to have some “fun for a very good cause.”

Prizes will be given for the the First Place Team; Most Hole In One’s; and the overall Tournament Champion.

Food & drinks will be on sale.

Contact Linda & Bill (491-6555) OR Kenny or Brenda (491-5585) to sign up and pay the entrance fee. Interested golfers can visit the golf course Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m.
