Montserrat to Host State of the Arc Scientific Conference April 12-18

BRADES, Montserrat – Montserrat will welcome an international cadre of scientists to the Sixth State of the Arc Conference from 12 – 18 April, 2015 at the Cultural Centre.
Later this week, delegates will begin to arrive to participate in the week of activities which includes four days of discussions of current research issues and potential future research directions.
PhD students will present their research during nightly Happy Hour sessions at the Cultural Centre, while during the day experts in geology and volcanology will discuss New Thinking about Arcs, look at new studies in volcanology in The Lesser Antilles, and Arc Inception and Evolution among others.
More than 60 people are scheduled to be on island for the event which will provide up close looks at the Soufriere Hills Volcano and the results of 20 years of volcanic activity. The Montserrat Volcano Observatory is to host tours in Plymouth, the Belham Valley and Jack Boy Hill to discuss their role in working around the Soufriere Hills Volcano.
Local coordinator Nerissa Golden of Goldenmedia notes that hotels and villas will benefit from the conference as many are coming early and staying beyond the event to enjoy the island.
MDM Travel & Events of Sydney, Australia are the international organisers of the conference.

    This is wonderful facilitation by the Montserrat Volcano Observatory, in addition to its indispensable monitoring and reporting on the Soufriere Hills Volcano.
