ST. JOHN’S – Mrs Mary Elizabeth Allen was honored Sunday, May 10, 2015 as the Mother of the Year for the Church of God of Prophecy in St. John’s.

Bernadine Collins of the Seventh Day Adventist Church presented Mrs Allen with the honour as the church commemorates 100 years on Montserrat.

Mrs Allen is an usher in her local church and will shortly celebrate 50 years of marriage. She was visibly surprised at the award and citation which shared information about her life, family and her passion for prayer.

Collins said the SDA felt it was fitting to honour mothers who have contributed greatly to the work of their church in much the same way that the SDA has done over the past 100 years.

Other women also honoured by the local congregation were Josephine Rodney, Mary Roach, Mary Kirwan and Beulah Riley.

The men’s ministry also gave Mother’s Day gifts to all of the mother’s in attendance.
