90% Pass Rate at Community College for CAPE Exams

SALEM – Montserrat’s premier tertiary education facility, The Montserrat Community College (MCC) is reporting a 90% pass rate in the May/June 2015 CAPE examinations following the release of examination results here. A total of thirty three (33) students were entered for sixteen units in fourteen subject areas; these were Accounts Units 1& 2, Biology, Caribbean Studies, Chemistry; Communication Studies, Computer Science, Digital Media, Economics, Environmental Science, French, Information Technology Units 1& 2, Management of Business, Physics and Pure Mathematics. There were 112 subject entries but only 105 were actually written.

There was a 100% pass rate in Accounts Units 1& 2, Biology, Caribbean Studies, Chemistry; Communication Studies, Computer Science, Digital Media, French and Information Technology Unit 2; Management of Business, Physics and Information Technology Unit had a pass rate of 80, 86 and 86 while Environmental Science, Information Technology Units 1 and Pure Mathematics received pass rates of 76, 67 and 60.

Nadia Browne was the top student with seven subject passes – Four Grade 1 and three Grade 2. Sovanye White and Bridget Collins followed closely with four passes – two Grade 1, two Grade 2; and five passes – Two Grade 3, One Grade 4, Two Grade 5 respectively.

An analysis of the grades indicates that the males had a pass rate of 88% while the females had a 92%.

Both staff and students are understandably overjoyed by the students’ success in the examinations.
