A moment of silence was held today to honour the memory of fisher and farmer Malcolm Tuitt, who died yesterday in an accident.

At the start of an official ceremony on Monday afternoon, Hon. Minister of Agriculture Claude Hogan asked for the silence as a tribute to the man, many knew as Pompey. He was a great help to the ministry, Hogan told the fishers gathered. He reflected on the man who provided for his family by being a livestock farmer and fisher.

Tuitt was said to have died after entering the Exclusion Zone and travelling to Long Ground with another man to catch animals. Reportedly he fell over a cliff and search and rescue officers were called in to retrieve the body late Sunday evening.

Tuitt had retired from the government last week and was to have turned 60 today, February 22, 2016.
