Grenada’s 2015 soca monarch won the first Arrow Tribute OECS Soca competition on Wednesday evening at Heritage Village in Salem.

Despite the late start, the energetic crowd supported the seven artists competing for the prestigious title and a US$5000 cash prize.

The event, which was organised by the St. Patrick’s Festival Committee, featured soca stars from Antigua, Nevis, Dominica, Anguilla, St. Kitts, Grenada and Montserrat.

Antigua’s Menace was said to have won the first round. However, Jalon Olive aka Boyzie of Grenada took the second round and was overall the most consistent performer said an insider.

The competition also featured two female soca artists from Anguilla and Dominica. An ensemble of International Musicians based in Montserrat and the United States backed the artists on the show which went well into the early morning hours of St. Patrick’s Day.

The tribute competition was to honour the legacy of the Soca King of the World Arrow, who was also given a National Hero’s award posthumously on Wednesday evening.
