The Royal Montserrat Defence Force is ready for any task, says Major Alvin Ryan.

Speaking at the closing of the annual training camp, Ryan told the gathering that he will shortly be reporting to Her Excellency the Governor Elizabeth Carriere on the state of readiness of the RMDF.

Ryan says the annual camp, which was held over ten days from August 20 – 31,  goes a long way towards preparing for and testing the force’s readiness to respond to its roles.

“Over the last year, we have invested in First Aid and trade training for members. During this camp we have focused on basic military and leadership skills. This is meant to set the foundation for the restructuring of the Force in accordance with Cabinet’s mandate for us. This mandate calls for the Force to be reformed into two platoons, one focusing on internal security and the other focusing on civil assistance taskings. The roles are very complementary as our deployment to Dominica last year proved,” the commander said.

“From June to now and especially during this camp our training was focused on the RMDF’s three core functions which are:

i. To provide assistance to the civil powers in time of emergency

ii. To provide support to other law enforcement agencies in matters relating to national security

iii. To leading on assigned ceremonial events.

During the closing programme, the force gave awards and promotions to cadets and other personnel.
