Fabulous Entertainment Takes Legends of Calypso on the Road
If it’s good enough for Montserrat then it’s good enough for the rest of the world.
Fabulous Entertainment is taking its popular show Legends of Calypso on the road.
Led by promoter and former Parliamentary Secretary Jermaine Wade, the concert which features some of the Caribbean’s most popular calypso singers will be held on St. Kitts on Thursday, September 14, 2016.
Wade held the first Legends of Calypso show on Montserrat in 2011 featuring former calypso monarchs from across the Caribbean. In July 2016, the promoter took the show to Nevis as part of its Culturama activities. Initial belief was that the show would be shopped around island to island annually, however, the impact of the Nevis show has changed the game for Wade and the entertainers.
Plans are already coming together to take the show to other islands over the coming months.
“Caribbean people love calypso and this is a chance for them to see entertainers they may have only heard on the radio,” said Wade. “We recognised a few years ago that we had a product that could work outside of Montserrat and we began approaching other islands to bring Legends to them. The response has been overwhelming add to that how the people respond at each show. The word is getting out about Legends of Calypso.”
Thursdays show is part of the Independence Day celebrations and will again feature ZJB Morning Show Host Basil Chambers as MC.
“It’s really cool to see how these islands love calypso. They love the music and they really embrace this show. So I’m happy to be a part of supporting Jermaine,” Chambers told Discover Montserrat.
Scheduled to appear on the show are local St Kitts and Nevis calypsonians including King Konris and King Meeko. Also on the show is the iconic David Rudder from Trinidad & Tobago and King Short Shirt from Antigua & Barbuda. Without question the audience will be waiting to hear what gossip De Bear is going to dig up for his popular song Melee For Sale. De Bear tweaks this song for every country he sings it in declaring he has the melee of the locals for sale at the right price.
