National ICT Week continues today with a forum to look at the implications for Montserrat in a Single ICT space.
Starting at 7PM at the Montserrat Cultural Centre, representatives from the private sector and telecom providers will make presenations on the topic “A Single ICT Space; Implications for Montserrat.”
The topic stems from the September 2017 endorsement by CARICOM leaders of a road map for the region’s Single ICT Space. The road map will now go for approval before Heads of Government at their intersessional Meeting in 2017. The Heads of Government had mandated the development of the Single ICT space by 2019 and has identified it as a key enabler for the formation of the CARICOM Digital economy.
The Single ICT Space will allow for harmonisation of the ICT and other legislative frameworks, the removal of roaming charges, the encouragement of digital entrepreneurship, equipping all citizens as Digital citizens and looking at ICT financial solutions among other regional benefits.
Expected to be in attendance is the minister responsible for Telecommunications Paul Lewis.
