Public Invited to Health Services Development Consultation

The Ministry of Health and Social Services is inviting the public to a consultation on the proposals for the development of health services on island.
The consultation will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the Brades Arts and Education Centre, starting at 5:00PM. During the meeting, a team from the Ministry of Health will present a report on the ‘Functional Review and Health Financing Study’ which was completed earlier this year.
The Ministry of Health is encouraging persons to attend and to provide feedback which will be taken into consideration when finalising plans for the health services. Permanent Secretary(Ag) in the Ministry of Health, Dorothea Hazel said, “The discussion will focus on the options being proposed for the advancement of Health Services on Montserrat; the proposed services to be offered at the new Hospital; the number of hospital beds being proposed, and the proposals for financing of services”. She further explained that five options for services will be presented along with two options for financing.
The Ministry of Health official noted that the public feedback is essential for inclusiveness in the selection of the best options for Montserrat.
Following the consultation, the Ministry will make a submission regarding the options presented, and Cabinet will be invited to make a final decision. The final decision will be factored into the development of the Business Case for the new Hospital along with a strategy for the advancement of the health services.
To ensure persons are able to attend the consultation, the Ministry has organised transportation for those who need it. Two buses will be available to pick up persons along the route, starting at 4:30PM Peter White’s bus will transport persons from Look Out en route to Brades while Elvis Daley’s bus will cover the Salem to Brades areas.

The ‘Functional Review and Health Financing Study’ was conducted by a team from Mott McDonald.
