The national men’s team will be back on the pitch this September for the first time in three and a half years.

The CONCACAF Nations League begins this September and runs into 2019 and will give Montserrat and other smaller national teams more opportunities to score.

The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) is the continental governing body for association football in North America, which includes Central America and the Caribbean region.

Recently, Howard McIntosh, Projects Director for the Caribbean said Montserrat and other tiny jurisdictions would benefit from the games which provide more competitive opportunities to play. The games will also bring revenue to the island as two of the scheduled four games take place on island.

Montserrat will play El Salvador at Blake’s Field on September 8, 2018.

Montserrat Forward Massiah McDonald recently told CONCACAF.com that “The talent we have within the Montserrat national team is very impressive, we haven’t played since the last World Cup qualifiers but we were very unlucky to have not gone on further after losing out to Curacao.”

“We are hoping that as a team we can make the country proud and put Montserrat on the map. I think a lot of people are going to be quite surprised this year and I think we are going to be a strong force. We are no longer the small Montserrat team, we are going to shock a lot of teams this year! People need to keep an eye out for us!” added McDonald.

The El Salvador game will be the third time that McDonald, who plays for the Coalville Town FC will play for the national team.

“To be chosen to represent your country is an absolute honor. Every footballer’s dream is to play at international level so to have accomplished this I’m extremely proud. Every time I put on a Montserrat shirt I aim to give nothing less than 100 percent,” said McDonald.

Montserrat will also face Belize, Aruba and the Cayman Islands.

Belize – Sunday, October 14 at 6PM (Home)

Aruba – Friday, November 16 at 8PM (Away)

Cayman Islands – March 22, 2019 at 6:30PM (Away)
