St. Patrick’s Festival 2019 on Montserrat Expecting Bumper Crowd this Weekend

The St. Patrick’s Festival 2019, an event showcasing a blend of our African and Irish Heritage, is well on its way and a number of high-energy activities have already taken place. However, the Festival is about to get bigger, as this week-end will see the arrival of an additional 900 plus passengers.

On Friday March 15 th the Sea Hustler ferry from Nevis and the Caribe Surf Vessel from St. Kitts will be visiting the
island for the weekend. Then on Saturday March 16 at around 10:00am, the Jaden Sun vessel will be bringing revelers from Antigua to join in the celebrations. Added to this would be the Jeans for Freedom Vessel from Guadeloupe, which is already booked to capacity with passengers who will be on Montserrat for the day from 9:00am.

The Tourism Division in collaboration with the St. Patrick’s Day Committee will be hosting a cultural Explosion in Marine Village on Saturday March 16 th from 2:00pm. This Event is organized to give visitors who will miss the Heritage Day Activities carded for Monday March 18, a taste of Montserrat’s culture. This mini cultural event on Saturday, will feature calypsonians, masquerades, steel pan, Matrixx Dancers, iron band and bouncy castle for the kids. Added to this will be a number of watersports activities for beach goers. Souvenir items and food will be on sale both at the Marine Village and at the Festival Village in Little Bay. One of the highlights of the event will be a raffle offering patrons a chance to win exciting prizes such as airline tickets, a helicopter ride and a SmartTv.

The Tourism Division extended thanks to all stakeholders who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes and especially acknowledges all of the sponsors, without whom many of the activities would not have taken place.

As we enter the home-stretch, there are a number of other major events carded for the weekend which will culminate in the Heritage Village at Salem Centre on Monday March 18th. These include the Heritage Jump up, the Freedom Run and Walk, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Heritage Feast and three international music concerts to close out the 2019 edition of the festival.
