Miss Montserrat 2019 Delegates Photo Spread

The Miss Montserrat Pageant Committee last week released new photos of the five young women competing in this year’s event.

Each contestant was shown in swimwear, casual and elegant outfits accompanied by their bio.

The pageant is scheduled for December 28 at Carnival Village.

The ladies are presented below.

Delegate #5 – Ms Wejahna Weekes

Wejahna Angel Weekes is an 18-year-old Clerical Officer, Athlete and a former Sergeant in the Montserrat Cadet Corps. She spent about four years (2014 to 2018) in the Cadet Corps, progressing through the ranks from Private, Lance Corporal, Corporal to Sergeant. In addition, she received the awards: Cadet of the Year in 2015 and Most Outstanding Non-Commissioned Officer in 2016. Her athletic accomplishments include the Victrix Ludorum Award in 2013 for obtaining seven gold, three silver and one bronze medals at the primary level. While at the secondary level she was Class Four Champion Girl twice (2013 and 2014) and won six gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

Ms. Wejahna knows that her years spent in school, doing track and field and in the Montserrat Cadet Corps have strengthened her, as a person, and created a level of discipline that will allow her to excel in her studies and life. She graduated from the Montserrat Secondary School (MSS) in 2018 and is currently employed at the Montserrat Customs and Revenue Service (MCRS) as a Clerical Officer. She intends to become a pathologist and is keen on travelling the world and making a serious and successful contribution to the development of Montserrat.

Delegate #4 – Janet Turner

Delegate #4 – Ms. Janet Turner

Born on the Land of Wood and Water; Jamaica, 22-year-old Janet Turner migrated to the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean in 2008.

Janet is a proud alumni of Lookout Primary, Montserrat Secondary School and Montserrat Community College. An ardent believer in the importance of education, Janet has acquired 6 O’ levels subjects, including Mathematics and English and 7 A’ levels.

Shortly after graduating college, Janet commenced working at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, where she provides administrative services and assistance to the legal team.

Her ultimate goal is to become a successful Entrepreneur as a renowned Event Planner. Focused on her dream, Janet is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management majoring in Tourism and Hospitality Management, through the UWI Open Campus.

Delegate #3 – Ms Francis Destouche

Confident, honest and beautiful are three words that best describe 19 year old Francis Destouche.

Born March 6, 2000 in Montserrat, she grew up in the multicultural village of Look Out with her siblings. Frances as the middle child was fortunate to have the best of both worlds – Older siblings to protect, guide and spoil her and younger siblings whom she helped to nurture, all while developing into the strong independent woman she is today.

Her formal education began at the Look Out Primary school and continued to the Montserrat Secondary School. Most recently, the Montserrat Community College where she obtained a certificate in Cosmetology.

Francis aims to become a Model and Cosmetologist. Currently employed as a Beautician, she is well on her way to achieving her dreams and gaining valuable experience which will propel her on and fuel the passion she has for aesthetics.

When asked who motivates her, she reveals that she admires Rihanna, for she is one of the few women from the Caribbean who has made it on an international stage and is dominant in the music industry as well as the fashion and beauty world.

 

 

 

 

Delegate #2 – Ms Jo-Diaz Tye sponsored by Victors Supermarket

Jo-Diaz Tye is described by those who know her well as an Energetic, Bubbly and Friendly Individual. Born in Dominica and having spent most of her life there, Jo-Diaz moved to Montserrat with her family in 2014 at the age of 12.

Relocating to Montserrat has provided her with new experiences expanding her horizons and a new extended family found in the kind hearted people of this little paradise.

Jo-Diaz’s curiosity led her to take part in the Teenage pageant in 2015 and having enjoyed the experience, she decided to take part in this year’s 2019 Ms. Montserrat as this experience will allow her to boldly step out of her comfort zone allowing her to become more of a confident individual.

Jo-Diaz recognizes the importance of education and after four years of attending the Montserrat Secondary School graduated in 2018 and went on to begin college in the BVI, studying for her Associates Degree in Business Administration at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

This degree will provide her with a stable educational background upon which she can build her future and be suitable for a range of jobs and careers. Perusing her degree also fills her with a sense of contentment since she will be the first in her family to obtain one.

Delegate #1 Stevika Rodney sponsored by Ms. Meredith Williams

23 years of age with a heart of gold, Stevika Rodney is a proud graduate of the Montserrat Community College. She gained an Associate Degree in General Studies in 2014. Stevika is aiming to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Management.

She was recently appointed as Senior Clerical Officer within the Ministry of Communications, Works, Energy and Labour.
Stevika is a lover of pageantry, modeling and fashion trends. She is no stranger to the stage, and has been participating in pageants since age 8 – a delegate in the Nurses Association Prince & Princess Show in 2004, where she was awarded Princess. In 2012, she placed 2nd runner-up in the Sunrise Production Teenage Pageant. This exposure stimulated a passion for pageantry in her. From then, she has endeavored to see this area of our festival develop to the standards of similar events hosted abroad.

Stevika is now a member of the Rotaract Club of Montserrat where she has joined the movement of Service above Self.
