Assessments continue on a sinkhole discovered on the island’s north coast.

The Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) reported today that on Wednesday, they discovered a land collapse in the area of North West Bluff.

“The collapse is similar to a sinkhole where the ground has fallen into an undergound cavity. The collapse has generated a vertical pit which is approximately 5 metres in diameter and 20 to 30 metres deep. The collapse appears to be new and was not there the last time we overflew this area, one month ago,” the scientists reported on their social media space.

Billy Darroux, Director of the DMCA along with the police and the MVO are currently investigating.

The area is to be continued dangerous and people should avoid visiting. Plans are to cordon off the area to prevent inadvertent injury or death to human beings and animal life.
