Montserrat’s most prolific author Dr Howard Fergus KBE has released another autobiography Road From Long Ground: The Twilight Years.
Born and raised in Long Ground Village ‘behind God back’, Howard Fergus rose to prominent positions in academia and the public service in Montserrat and the Caribbean. This book is a sequel to his popular Road from Long Ground: My Personal Path which treated with the early and middle years of his life and the forces and persons that informed those years.
The present volume deals with the declining, but by no means lazy years since the road “winds uphill all the way.” It also describes the new Long Ground and some of its cavalcade of achievers in the modern era. The thought is that Long Ground and its people are ever with Fergus and in him; and Long Ground is a microcosm of Montserrat.
“Although the book is autobiographical essentially, it celebrates others who hail from Long Ground. These include Joel Osborne, Claude Hogan, Easton Farrell, Ruth Bramble, Anthony Jeffers, Dulcie Bramble, the Johnson calypsonians and others. They are part of who I am, part of the environment that moulded me,” the author shared.
