A consultation on Violence Against Children and How to Protect Montserrat’s Children is scheduled to be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at the Credit Union Hall in Brades.
The event is part of the Montserrat Women’s Resource Centre (MWRC) ongoing conversations and consultations on reducing the incidences and the severity of domestic and community violence against women and children.
Working on the premise that the Children of Montserrat can thrive only with the support of the community, and that failure to protect the island’s children causes harm to all of us, the MWRC invites the participation of all sectors.
“We want as many people as possible to attend and contribute to the conversation,” says the MWRC’s Volunteer Executive Director, Shirley Osborne. “We are inviting suggestions and solutions from the entire community. Protecting the children of Montserrat from every kind of harm, means ensuring that children are kept healthy, are educated appropriately, and are kept safe from domestic and other kinds of violence and abuse.
“If we want a thriving Montserratian community – and economy – and an island that continues to be generally safe, it is imperative that we as a community fulfil our obligation to keep children safe from sexual exploitation and other forms of sexual harm, from physical violence at home, at school, online and in the community and from neglect within the family and the state.”
This particular consultation is being presented in two parts:
In Part 1: Dr. Brenda Osborne will be speaking on Rose’s Show on Radio Montserrat on Saturday October 20th at 9:00 a.m. We want people everywhere to tune in and call in to the conversation.
In Part 2: A panel composed of Amelda Nelson from the Social Services Department, Nerissa Golden, a parent and Inspector Courtney Rodney from the Child Protection Unit of the Royal Montserrat Police Service will offer a series of presentations and engage a panel discussion on Monday October 22 at 7PM at the Credit Union Hall in Brades.
