Nerissa Golden and library team up to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week on Montserrat

BRADES, Montserrat – Author and entrepreneur Nerissa Golden is teaming up with the local public library to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) which is November 15 to 20th, 2010.

There are almost 100 countries around the world participating in GEW, with more than 30,000 activities planned to encourage enterprise development.

During this week the Montserrat Public Library will prominently display many of the books and resources that deal with starting a business, finance, and other aspects of entrepreneurship. From Wednesday November 17 to Friday November 19th, Nerissa Golden will be offering free workshops between the hours of 4pm and 6pm at the library.

“A lot of emphasis has been placed this year on stimulating enterprise development on island and we wanted to use this week, which is celebrated globally to offer more opportunities for people who have started a business or have been thinking about it,” explained Golden, who runs goldenmedia Montserrat, a public and media relations firm, and the local representative for the GEW.

“We have quite a few specialty books on business, lots of resources on craft making and other cottage industries that people can borrow to support their ideas,” said Sonja Smith, the Librarian. “The computers will also be available for those wishing to do research and we have several copies of Nerissa’s book The Making of a Caribbeanpreneur, which people can borrow.”

On Wednesday the focus of the workshop will be on music and the entertainment industry. Golden says whether the person is looking for someone to listen to their music, help with their promotion plans and selling their music, they will be able to do so at no cost to them during these two hours.

On Thursday, the workshop and assistance will be targeted at those developing cottage industries, while Friday’s session will be a general discussion on entrepreneurship, setting fees, marketing and negotiating contracts.

“You can attend one event or all three. We really just want to help people move beyond the hurdles that are stopping them from more financial freedom and empowerment,” added Golden.

There is no cost and persons are encouraged to call the library at 491-4706 or email Nerissa Golden at info@trulycaribbean.net to confirm their attendance and on which days.
