For the first time in the 20-year history of the Leeward Islands Calypso Competition, there will be more female monarchs than men this year.

Five islands have sent women to the competition, one more than the number of men in the show, which will be held in Anguilla tonight, Saturday August 6, 2016.

Antigua will be represented by Queen Thalia, four-time monarch Sister Joyce will be representing Tortola. Shakiya is the first female monarch from St. Maarten, Anguilla and the USVI also have female calypsonians as their top singers.

Montserrat will be represented for the first time by Steve “Iceman” Weekes. Defending his crown is the former Antigua monarch and also a Montserratian Keithroy ‘DeBear’ Morson.

Another Montserratian making an appearance in the show will be ZJB Radio’s morning personality Basil Chambers.

The competition will not be streamed but you can listen live on ZJB Radio Montserrat from 8:30PM.
