Montserrat Cricketers Sign Deals with Regional and UK Clubs

Montserrat is beaming at the news this month of six local cricketers who are now living their dreams of playing cricket professionally.

Since the month began, four players have jetted off to teams in the United Kingdom after being headhunted. Damion Williams is now playing for Ticknall Cricket Club, Stevel Rodney is now at Bredbury St. Mark’s Cricket Club, Deno Baker went to Morecambe Premier Cricket Club, and Jemuel Cabey is at Redruth Cricket Club in Cornwall.

All of the players have previously played nationally for Montserrat as well been selected to Under 19 Leeward Islands cricket. Last year’s hosting of the Under 15 and Under 19 LI tournaments placed attention on the local pool of talent. An added benefit is their possession of or access to a British passport, which reduces the immigration issues for bringing in overseas players.

Quinton Boatswain and Jaison Peters have secured contracts for the 2019/20 season with the Leeward Island Hurricanes.

Peters is presently completing his first year with the Hurricanes as their wicketkeeper batsman.
