2016 Funky Man Awards Honours 10 Montserratians

The 24th Funky Man Awards was held on Thursday, December 30 at the Montserrat Cultural Centre.

The celebration honours students and other outstanding residents who are often overlooked.

Hosted by Salas Hamilton, the evening featured music by the new band Pulse featuring Nia Golden, Calypso Vedz, Keiana Wade,  TNT, Inner Vibes band, poet Bublicious, and calypsonians Ice Man and De Bear. The Emerald Shamiole Masquerades also gave the crowd a good session of dancing the various quadrilles.

Students receiving awards were Vashurn Roach of St Augustine Primary, Sotanyeh Burns of Lookout Primary, Noel Hickson of Brades Primary, and Kenneth Walcott of the Montserrat Secondary School.

The senior awardees were teacher Sara Ann Lee O’Garro, businessman Randolph Riley, Sarah Jeffers, William P. Ryan, and Winston ‘Kafu’ Cabey.

Mr Funky Man himself, Carlton O’Garro presented cheques valued at $500 to several community organisations. They were: Meals on Wheels, Montserrat Red Cross, Sir Howard Fergus Scholarship Fund and the Golden Years Home.
