LITTLE BAY – A total of $20,000 is up for grabs at the first “Montserrat Volcano Catch” Fishing Tournament & Regatta scheduled for Labour Day Weekend on Montserrat.
Organised by Jermaine Wade of Fabulous Entertainment, the tournament was named to commemorate the 20th anniversary of volcanic activities in Montserrat.
Wade’s vision is that the fishing tournament is to become an annual event which will evolve into a tourism attraction for Montserrat.
Already participants are expected from throughout the Caribbean for the tournament and there are future plans to incorporate racing yachts for a scenic round the island boat race.
Registration closes on Friday 24th April for the fishing weekend and features over 15 categories in which cash prizes totalling EC$20,000 can be won.
Categories include: Sports fishing /deep sea fishing, Shoreline fishing, Fishing by spare/fishing gun and Fish pot fishing.
“The interesting aspect is there is no other tournament in the region that incorporates so many categories. The tournament will last the entire Labour Day weekend from the 1-4 May 2015 with two days of fishing and activities centralized in and around the Marine Village at Little Bay,” the promoter stated.
The Tournament and Regatta will culminate on Monday 4th May with an exhibition of category winners catch and prize giving. There will also be an all day Seafood Fete at the Marine Village in Little Bay.
Vendors are invited find a spot and set up and sell seafood.
