Annual Easter Music Workshop Closes

SALEM – The Annual Easter Music Workshop organised by the Culture Division of the Montserrat Arts Council came to a close on Thursday, April 16th, 2015 at the old Salem Primary School.
The two-week programme which began on April 7th allowed 35 children from across the island to learn how to play various instruments.
This year students were taught music theory and how to play the piano, guitar, violin, trumpet, trombone and saxophone.
The head of the programme was the Coordinator of Culture, Mr. Herman ‘Cupid’ Francis. The instructors and assistants were Mr. Lloyd ‘Bimsha’ Francis, Sharlene Lindsay, Thousland Galloway and Davika Crichlow.
The Hon. Parliamentary Sec w/ responsibility for Culture, Mr. Gregory Willock and the new Director of the Montserrat Arts Council, Mr. Chadd Cumberbatch were present at the closing ceremony.
During the closing session, the students made presentations in their different groups with musical renditions of favourites such as ‘Fire, Fire’, ‘Calabash’, ‘When the Saints Go Marching In’ and ‘Amazing Grace’. After remarks from Mr. Willock and a vote of thanks from Mr. Francis, the students closed the ceremony with a percussion exercise.
