St. PETER’S – Java Lava Art Cafe celebrated its first anniversary on Saturday evening by launching a new exhibit in its Meet the Artists series.
Now on display is the photography of Tony Bates, acrylic paintings by Anjelica Sweeney, mixed media pieces with Carolyn Coleby, new quilted products by Jim Brown and collages by Shan Murrell.
More than 30 visitors reserved tables for the special dinner and celebrated with cafe owner Vidya Birkhoff and her staff.
Proceeds from the sale of photography by Tony Bates, who heads the Governor’s Office, will go to the Montserrat Children’s Society. Her Excellency Governor Elizabeth Carriere was on hand to congratulate Bates on his work and contribution to showcasing the beauty of the island.
Jim Brown who featured quilts in his first exhibition, said although he loved making them they were not in high demand on island. In this exhibit, he has used the quilt design to create bowls, pot holders, and bags of various sizes.
Fresh off of her first big sale as an artist Anjelica Sweeney has on display a new collection of acrylics which show her diversity and passion for capturing life’s moments.
Shan Murrell’s collages are always fun to look at and and are sure to put the viewer in a good mood.
Carolyn Coleby’s striking mixed media pieces which combine photographic images of Montserrat with driftwood frames add another dimension to the collection of art in this series.
The artwork are all for sale and can be purchased at the cafe in St. Peters.
