Montserrat Welcomes the Queen’s Relay 2010 Delhi Baton

BRADES  – The grounds of the Governor’s Office and the Government Headquarters Complex was the scene of jubilation and national pride this morning as hundreds of Primary school students, their teachers, public servants and the general public converged to witness the official ceremony to welcome the Queen’s Baton Relay 2010 Delhi to Montserrat.

The Baton was carried from Cudjoe Head through Brades to the Governor’s Office by a team from the Montserrat Amateur Athletic Association led by Principal Baton Bearer for Montserrat James ‘Fittest Man’ Greenaway whose longevity and commitment to athletics symbolizes qualities of what the Commonwealth Games Community is all about.

In the ceremony brief remarks were made by His Excellency the Governor, the Hon High Commissioner, Mr. Richard Aspin and Ms. Rose Willock. Following the ceremony a team of young athletes accompanied by their colleagues took the Baton around Government Headquarters grounds so that public servants could have the privilege of seeing it.

The Baton leaves Montserrat tomorrow March 19th for St. Kitts on the next leg of its journey to seventy one (71) countries of the Commonwealth.
