PORT-AU-PRINCE – Director of the Montserrat Arts Council, Chadd Cumberbatch is currently in Haiti for the 23rd Meeting of the Regional Cultural Committee (RCC).
The meeting scheduled from July 8 to 10, 2015 opened with official launch of the Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA) XII which will be held in Haiti next month.
In attendance are representatives from the cultural divisions of CARICOM member states. Also present is the Dr Hilary Brown,
Programme Manager Culture & Community Development at CARICOM Secretariat as well as officials from the host country including Ms Elsa Baussan Noel, President of the Organising Committee.
On the agenda is a status report on the preparations for the cultural festival; the Draft Regional Development Strategy and Action Plan for the Cultural Industries in CARICOM and priority follow-up actions; as well as a report on “Leveraging CARICOM’s Human, Cultural and Natural Assets for the Economic Development of the Community”.
A report on the International Reparations Summit, the creation of a CARICOM song and Culture and Edutainment in Public Education are other discussion points.
Cumberbatch is expected to present a country report on Montserrat’s cultural programme.
CARIFESTA is scheduled to be held in Haiti August 21 – 30, 2015.
