BRADES – Two young ladies from the St. Augustine Primary School won the recently held Spelling Bee for students six to nine years old.
Organised by the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, the bee was held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at the Brades Primary School. Competing were: Grade 1 – Brades (Shamiah Chester) & St. Augustine (Shekinah Persaud) and Grade 2 – Brades (Elize Gerald) & St. Augustine (Pharri-Ann Senior).
Miss Dorothea Hazel moderated the short competition, which was scored and adjudged by Ms Narine Durant, Ms Althea Allen and Miss Nicole Duberry. The Timekeeper was Calvin Lewis.
Zelma White of the ministry said they were “deeply grateful for the work done by Technical Coordinator Loni Howe and the voluntary service of those who officiated and the cooperation of the teachers, parents and students.”
The October Bee is to be held on Montserrat.
Winning the competetion were Shekinah Persaud who will be in Grade two next academic year and Pharri-Ann Senior who will be in Grade three next academic year. The two are expected to compete in October against spellers from Anguilla and hopefully Turks & Caicos Island in a competition for Grade 2 and Grade 3 Students.
The Hon. Minister of Education Mrs Delmaude Ryan was also in attendance at the spelling bee.
