The recruitment of a new Deputy Governor for Montserrat has not been an easy one, says Her Excellency the Governor Elizabeth Carriere.
Speaking to the press last Friday, the governor said she has made the decision to hire Lindell Simpson to act as Deputy Governor of the island starting December 1, 2016.
The selection panel had not been able to reach a unanimous decision from the three candidates who were shortlisted. Governor Carriere explained that she decided to give the highest scoring candidate from the assessment exercise the role for one year.
The governor added that while acting, Ms Simpson will receive strong development assistance to see if she can be the substantive deputy governor.
Since August, the governor has been doing both roles, which she said has been useful in helping her to understand what is required of the DG and gave her an in depth appreciation for the Human Resource function.
As of October 10, former DG Sarita Francis will act as deputy governor until Ms Simpson takes up the position in December. Mrs Francis will also act as governor from October 22 to November 6 while Governor Carriere is off island.
Simpson, is currently the HR head for the National Bank of Anguilla. She was formerly the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Communications and Works in 2007 and previously worked in the Ministry of Health and the HR Department with the Government of Montserrat.
As is constitutionally mandated the deputy governor must be a national of Montserrat.
