BRADES – The Ministry of Health is calling all wholesale and retail outlets which carry Blue Bell ice cream products to remove them from the shelves after a worldwide recall by the manufacturer.
Blue Bell Creameries of Brenham, Texas announced on April 20, 2015, a total recall of all of its products currently on the market because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which is a rare but serious illness. Samples taken by the firm showed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream half gallons produced on March 17 and March 27, 2015.
The ministry announced Wednesday that local suppliers and retail stores should no longer sell the popular ice cream brand. Residents are also to be vigilant and throw away any products already in their possession.
Trevor Howe of the Environmental Health department has also asked shop owners to clean the area where the ice cream was stored to avoid further contamination.
