Pianist Joycelyn Freeman to perform for Queen’s Jubilee Concert on Montserrat

BRADES, Montserrat – Joycelyn Freeman has been described as “One to watch” by International Piano Magazine and she will be the featured performer at the Queen’s Jubilee Concert to benefit the Montserrat Foundation (UK) in June.
His Excellency the Governor Adrian Davis announced this week that as part of “the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, a concert will be held at Government House on 8 June at 7:30pm. The main featured artist at the concert will be Miss Jocelyn Freeman who is already a very accomplished pianist and veteran of many concerts.”
London-based pianist Jocelyn Freeman is rapidly emerging as one of Wales’ foremost young instrumentalists. She is increasingly in demand as an accompanist and duo partner, having performed with Bryn Terfel, Michael Chance and Alfie Boe. Recent performances have taken her around the UK, France, Denmark and Cyprus, and she is a Samling Scholar.
Last year she won the Chelsea Schubert Festival Song Competition, the Joan Chissell/Rex Stephens Duo Prize for Schumann Lieder, the Ludmilla Andrews Russian Song Accompanist Prize, and the Blodwen Cosslett Leyshon Prize. As a soloist Jocelyn has performed concertos by Mozart, Liszt and Gershwin, and was awarded Gold at the Marlow International Concerto Competition 2008.
Freeman will be joined by Jonathan Ang of Singapore, who is on island teaching music at several of the local schools. The Montserrat Youth Choir is also expected to perform.
Tickets will be EC$70 including a complimentary drink. All proceeds will go to the Montserrat Foundation (UK) which is sponsoring Jonathan’s assignment on Montserrat.
Tickets can be obtained from the Governor’s office or the governor’s wife Sujue Davis at 491-2150.
