New breast cancer treatments and dealing with anxiety are among the topics for the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Forum.
Organised by Clinical Specialist Sonographer Sonia Charles, the forum will be held at the Montserrat Cultural Centre on Thursday October 29th at 7pm.
The forum is part of Charles’ annual initiative in collaboration with the Pink Ribbon Charity to raise awareness of breast cancer and to raise money for the mammogram fund which allows women to get free screenings on Antigua.
Prevent! Touch, Look and Check is the theme for the week of activities.
“I really encourage everyone to come out to hear a great line up of speakers on a variety of topics, such as treatment pathways, changes to breast health on Montserrat, dealing with anxieties and fears and healthy living. You can also hear new information about guiding better outcomes for women with Breast Cancer,” Charles said.
The public is also invited to listen to the Wednesday October 28th edition of Talking Health Programme on ZJB Radio Montserrat from 3 to 4 pm.
Later that evening, Olveston House will be hosting a charity dinner with tickets on sale for $75. Dinner begins at 7pm with tickets on sale from Nurse Brenda Daley and Hazel Riley at Economy Bakery.
On Saturday from 6am, everyone can enjoy the early morning breakfast and cake sale. Saturday night the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk begins at the Look Out Community Centre at 6pm. Registration begins at 5:30pm. The walk ends at the Little Bay Market.
To date, 200 women on Montserrat have been able to get free mammograms through the Pink Ribbon Charity. These women, breast cancer survivors and other women are invited to share their experiences following the walk in order to encourage other women to get checked.
