No Ferry Service this Weekend Due to Rough Seas

Rough seas are again cancelling ferry service between Montserrat and Antigua for the remainder of the weekend.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Communications & Works, passengers travelling today until Sunday are asked to contact one of the local airlines Fly Montserrat or SVG Air to book flights as there will be no ferry service.

On Thursday January 21 upon leaving Antigua with 40 passengers the ferry had to return to Antigua because the seas at Little Bay was rough with ground swells.

Overnight accommodations was found for the passengers at Heritage Hotel and Joe Mikes for approximately 25 people, while others chose to stay with friends and relatives.

On Friday morning, the ministry chartered two flights on Fly Montserrat and one on SVG to carry the luggage and 31 passengers who checked in.

According to the weather forecast, the rough seas are expected to continue into Sunday.  Passengers are been asked to contact Fly Montserrat on 491-3434 and SVG on 491-4200 to make their own travel arrangements.  The public is asked to listen to ZJB Radio for further travel updates.

On January 12, the government chartered 12 flights to get travellers returning home after festival to enable them to make their connections in Antigua.

Sea swells are a regular occurrence during this time of the year into April.
