A former director of agriculture for Montserrat is back to assist in developing a strategy for the ministry.
Franklyn Michaels is supporting the Ministry of Agriculture’s efforts to improve food security with an Agricultural Development Strategy.
According to Director of Agriculture Melissa O’Garro, the strategy will be broad-based and will include several sectors within the ministry, including fishing and farming. The director said at its completion, the strategy will lay out a plan for developing the fishers with the end goal of increasing the quality and quantity of fish available on the market.
Hon Minister of Agriculture Claude Hogan added that the strategy will create a framework for how the farming and fishing industries can be developed and will inform future incentive programmes.
The strategy is expected to be ready for implementation by October 2016.
