Montserrat will be getting some television time on the popular British-French crime comedy-drama Death in Paradise.
Last week location manager James Chambers and two members of his team were on island to do reconnaissance for the episode.
The show stars Kris Marshall as London detective Humphrey Goodman who solves murders on the fictional paradise island of Saint Marie in the Caribbean. The bumbling British detective works alongside the local Saint Marie police team to track down murderers.
Chambers said his visit was a follow-up from an October 2015 trip by producers to conceptualise the script. While he declined to give details about the story line, we’ve learned it involves the murder of a volcanologist.
Soufriere Hills Volcano and the Montserrat Volcano Observatory will play a starring role in the episode.
The cast and crew of about 40 to 60 people will be coming to island in April for filming for one week. He said there will be a need for extras during the production.
“Montserrat has stunning scenery and we’ve always wanted to move the show around. Everyone was keen to show the volcano,” he shared.
Tourism Officer Cherise Aymer noted that while Montserrat will not be named in the show as it will be framed as another section of Saint-Marie, the island will benefit from the publicity and social media promotions by the series.
The location manager described the show as good family fun which draws seven million viewers every week on BBC.
