The Montserrat Arts Council has announced that it will be launching a new series of workshops to help build the island’s cultural product.
Ignite, is a series of symposiums and workshops will the MAC hopes will serve as an “ignition point for some of the cultural” issues that their outreach has identified as areas of need.
Business of the Arts, Calypso/Soca (judging and producing), Event Management, Film and Literature are all to be covered over the coming months.
“They will be facilitated by top practitioners in each discipline and will serve to address how artists see themselves and how they engage their talents with a view to economic gain,” a release from the council stated.
The first in the series will be addressing “Business of the Arts†in the form of a symposium on January 10th, 2018. This will be accompanied by a Master Class in “Events Marketing and Production†which will be in the form of a three-day workshop from January 11th to 13th. These will be facilitated by Dr. Suzanne Burke, a lecturer in Cultural Studies at the UWI St. Augustine campus.
The MAC says the workshop “will address and give much needed guidance to Montserrat’s young creatives. This is a critical part of building capacity on island.”
The symposium is free and there is a $50 registration fee for the three-day workshop. Register at the MAC office upstairs the Little Bay Market or by calling 491-8555 or 8556.
