Public Holiday Friday to Honour Former Minister of Government

Friday, May 10, 2019 has been declared a public holiday to celebrate the life of the former minister of government, the Right Honourable Mrs Margaret Annie Dyer-Howe, who passed away in April.

All Government of Montserrat offices except for essential services will be closed. Banks and other public-facing businesses are also expected to be closed.

Mrs. Dyer-Howe died on April 7, 2019. She began her political career in 1979 and became gained a ministerial position following the 1983 elections. She was a former minister for education, health and social services. Along with her significant contributions to government and political life she was a business woman and co-owned Howe’s Enterprises, which produced a stream of agro-products, including Montserrat Spring Water, hot sauce, rums and liqueurs.

Annie Margaret Dyer-Howe was awarded the Montserrat Order of Excellence in 2018 for her contributions to the socio-economic development of Montserrat.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at 10AM at the St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Lookout. The public is invited to come out and celebrate her life.
