Jaden Sun Ferry Contract Renewed, Changes to Sunday Schedule Begin in October

Jaden Sun Inc has been given another year to provide ferry services between Montserrat and Antigua.

The contract was signed between the Government of Montserrat and the company on Monday September 23, 2019 and commences on Tuesday October 1, 2019. The contract signing follows the procurement process which began in July 2019.

Meanwhile, the Access Division said it is continuing to advance the implementation of its ‘Sea & Air Access Strategy’, which is aimed at providing improved connectivity to and from Montserrat.

Following the approval of the ‘Ferry Fares and Concessions Policy’, the division coordinator Ashley Lindsey, said over the coming year, targeted efforts will be made on procuring a Government-owned vessel and establishing a separate operator contract. The division is also pursuing reintroducing Twin Otter services to the island to improve air access.

Additionally, the procurement process for the Ferry Agency Services for both Antigua and Montserrat is progressing well, a release from the Government Information Unit said. The Access Division aims to collaborate with the contracted agent, to further enhance customer service and travel facilitation.

Further changes to the ferry schedule go into effect on October 6, 2019. The ferry Sunday service will depart Montserrat to Antigua at 5pm, and leave Antigua to Montserrat at 7:30pm.
Concessionary fares will be fully implemented by then, as the concessions take effect from October 1, 2019, the release stated.
