“Plan for Uncertainty…Make Insurance Your Priority” is the theme for Financial Information Month, which is held each October by the offices of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank across the Currency Union.
Last week, FIM was officially launched with a livestream from all of the member states in the ECCU. In attendance was the Minister of Finance Donaldson Romeo, Deputy Financial Secretary Philip Chambers and representatives from local banking and insurance institutions on island.
On Montserrat, ECCB Representative Angela Estwick said they have focused the main activities over a period of ten days to give way for a busy month of events from several organisations.
Activities begin with stakeholders joining the church service on Sunday October 6 at the Church of God of Prophecy at 9AM. It will also be broadcast live on Radio Montserrat.
From Monday October 7 to the 12th, Radio Montserrat will air two quiz questions with financial prizes for winners. For children under 12 and 12-17.
On Monday there will be an Interactive Radio Programme on Radio Montserrat. A panel of insurance experts and providers will sensitise listeners about insurance as well as financial matters and products. The panelists will be FIM Partners who will also share information about their products and services.
On Tuesday, October 8, FIM partners will provide financial donations to the Montserrat Senior Citizens Association and the Montserrat Association of Persons with Disabilities.
Also on Tuesday, students at the community college will be engaged in interactive and informative sessions with FIM Partners, with the aim of developing their understanding of financial and insurance related matters.
On Wednesday, October 9, there will be a mentorship session for Grade four students at the Brades Primary School on Budgeting and Planning.
There will be a Regional Business Symposium via video-conferencing. Session one is on Preparing for Uncertainty: Financial tools to help you protect everyone and everything you care about. Session two is on Rising Above the Storm: How to Recover from Financial Setbacks.
Thursday, October 10 will see secondary school students engaged in interactive sessions with FIM Partners, with the aim of developing their understanding of financial and insurance related matters.
Friday, 11 October – Mixer Event where FIM Partners will be gathering at Little Bay to raise more awareness on FIM 2019 and the theme: Plan for Uncertainty…Make Insurance Your Priority.
A Hike for Wellness is scheduled for Saturday, 12 October. FIM Partners and friends will hike to Rendezvous. Prior to departure and upon arrival at Rendezvous, health and insurance professionals will share motivational and educational information with participants.
There is also a Joint Initiative Community Project that day. FIM Partners will collaborate with the Rotaract Club in their Traffic Island Project, beautifying an area in St. John’s.
The final event will be a Lunch and Learn on Thursday October 17 at the ECCB office. The event is focused at entrepreneurs and small business owners to gather information on insurance and its benefits. Registration for this event is required. Bring Your Own Lunch and join the conversation
