Singers planning to enter both the calypso and soca competitions will no longer be allowed to enter the same song in both events.
The Montserrat Arts Council (MAC) announced today, “a new regulation has been implemented for the upcoming Calypso and Soca Shows. Effective immediately, artists are prohibited from entering the same song in both competitions. This decision aims to promote creativity, diversity, and fair competition within the cultural landscape of Montserrat,” the council stated.
“It is important that the quality of our Soca and Calypso products attain global standards. This is one step in that direction,” Kenneth Silcott, Director of the Montserrat Arts Council said.
MAC is encouraging all participants to adhere to this new rule and to submit original and distinct compositions for each category. This change, they hope, will enhance the overall quality and excitement of both shows.
The calypso eliminations are slated to be held on December 7, 2024.
