A few hours later at about 1AM officers responded to a report of rape in the Salem district. The suspect was said to have cooperated with police in the investigation of both incidents.
During their investigations the police received some useful information relating to a previous report of rape in the Salem district and this matter is also being actively investigated.
On July 7, 2016 D’Vaunte Henry of Salem appeared before the Magistrate on several charges to include – two counts of rape, burglary, criminal damage and one count of assault. Henry was subsequently remanded to Her Majesty Prison until the 14th July, 2016 hearing.
Police Commissioner Steve Foster says he was pleased with the efforts of his officers who have been working “continuously in trying to get us to this point. The job however is not yet completed as we still need to present our findings to the Court. I am also thankful for the various persons in the community who aided in the arrest of the suspect.”
“Our liaison officers will continue to work along with the victims throughout this difficult period. This speaks volume to our community engagement efforts and further strengthens our theme, ‘See something, Say Something and Together WE can do something.’ We will continue to review our strategies to improve on our delivery to provide quality service to the public.”
