Olveston – Public Servants on Montserrat were invited to the Montserrat Cultural Centre on Friday, June 27, 2014 to hear parting words from HE Governor Adrian Davis.
Governor Davis who leaves office in just under two weeks at the end of his four year stint, said he envisioned his role not just as the Queen’s representative on Montserrat but also as a friend, a bridge between Montserratians and the British Government. He added that he saw his job as telling the truth to whoever needed to hear it.
The governor took the opportunity to commend public servants for their hard work but also pointed out some things he would have liked to see. Team work and greater communication are areas which need to be improved, he said. There is a need for public servants to work together on the job and to drop the idea that “Knowledge is a source of personal power”.
Honourable Deputy Governor, Jim Taylor in his remarks commended Governor Davis for leading in several areas to include the development of a more efficient Appraisal System, a strong commitment to sharing information, promptness, town hall meetings outside of times of disaster, monthly meetings with the press, establishment of Commissions, and appointment of Montserratians living outside of Montserrat to serve on Commissions.
He made mention of HE’s passion for the completion for the completion of the Public Administration Bill which unfortunately is still incomplete, but one which will be worked on after he is gone.
According to HE Governor, both he and his wife thoroughly enjoyed serving on Montserrat and will miss Montserrat. They are committed to being goodwill ambassadors.
