BRADES – Government House on Thursday, released the arrival programme for the new governor Her Excellency Ms Elizabeth Carriere.
Ms Carriere is expected to arrive on island on a scheduled Fly Montserrat flight on the morning of Wednesday 5 August to begin her term as Governor of Montserrat. She will be accompanied by her UK Policy Adviser, Mr Tony Bates, who will meet her in Antigua on 4 August and will be met on arrival in Montserrat by HE the Acting Governor, Mr Alric Taylor, Hon. Premier Donaldson Romeo, Hon. Speaker Ms Shirley Osborne, and the Commissioner of Police, Mr Steve Foster.
Ms Carriere will drive to Government House where she will then prepare for the Swearing In ceremony at the Legislative Assembly at the Cultural Centre at 1400 that day. The Swearing In will be followed by a small reception to meet some of her officials, members of the press and others.
Speaking in advance of her arrival, Ms Carriere said:
“I am very much looking forward to arriving in Montserrat and getting to work. I have heard much about the famous warmth of the people and the beauty of the landscape, despite the volcanic devastation of the last twenty years. I will do all I can to help Montserrat back on the path to economic success and to enhance its reputation as a safe place to live, visit and do business.”
In the days and weeks following her swearing in, Ms Carriere will embark on a programme of visits and meetings around the island with government officials, the private sector, local charities and the wider community. She is keen to meet as many people as possible early in her term.
