The foundation of the Governor’s Residence in Woodlands has been undermined and until it is resolved no large functions can be held there.
His Excellency the Governor Andy Pearce confirmed this Wednesday at his meeting with the press. As he understands it, the floor plate of the residence is vulnerable. The concrete is flaking and the steel work is corroded and deteriorating.
Until it has been repaired, which is posing a challenge, no major events can be held at the residence for safety reasons. A maximum of about seven to ten people are allowed at any time.
Engineers are currently looking at ways to fix the problem.
Government House is frequently hosts receptions for visiting dignitaries and official events, such as the Queen’s Birthday Party.
