The Montserrat Arts Council would like to thank all contributors to Festival 2018. The Arts Council cited several setbacks to staging the annual year end Festival, but attributed its overall success to good corporate citizenship and good fiscal oversight.
Director of the Arts Council, Chadd Cumberbatch, expressed “We know the economic climate has not been the best and we appreciate the generosity of our corporate citizens. the growth and success of Festival would not have been possible without the hard work of the Montserrat Festival Committee, who worked tirelessly to produce the events for patrons to enjoy.”
Cumberbatch added that despite the poor weather conditions and casual participation, revenue generated from Festival 2018 nevertheless covered 19% of the Festival’s overall operating costs. This is an increase from 16.56% generated in Festival 2017. The Montserrat Arts Council attributes this to sponsorship and good fiscal management.
Montserrat’s annual end of year Festival culminated on January 1st 2018 with the customary Street Parade and Closing Ceremony. The Festival saw a grand opening ceremony, three Calypso shows, a Carol Singing event, Soca Monarch competition, a joint Queen Show and Teen Pageant, Regional Female Calypso competition, Festival Day, two Street Jams and an Art Exhibition organized by the Montserrat Arts Council and the Montserrat Festival Committee. Private show promoters populated the Festival calendar with various concerts and after parties. There was also an increase in children’s activities and fun days.
