We won’t say who were our favourite artists of the evening were but we will give major kudos for the Calypso Sub-Committee and the Montserrat Festival team for choosing to bring a part of the calypso eliminations to Salem.
The event, which was free was well attended and enjoyed good participation from the crowd as they supported all of the singers. Cepeke and the Black Rhythms Band were in fine form last night, which greatly improved the entertainment value of the show.
The intimate setting of the outdoor venue, the new stage with a different orientation, great lighting and sound brought the right ingredients for the 15 calypsonians who performed.
One artist was a no-show but under the able direction of MC Joe West the evening kept moving along steadily and was over in two and a half hours by 10:30PM.
The final results of who will go forward into the Semi-Finals will be revealed next Saturday after Part II of the eliminations at the Hot Spot in Little Bay.
