Who will have the chance to challenge Garnett ‘Sylk’ Thompson for the calypso monarch crown?
The answer will be revealed this Saturday in Carnival City, Little Bay as 15 calypsonians compete in the second round of the calypso competition.
The absence of about seven of the most popular singers has allowed for new faces to rise the challenge. Edwin ‘Red Ride’ Martin, himself a calypsonian not competing this year, told Discover Montserrat that this will be the first year since 1992 that Herman ‘Cupid’ Francis will not be in the finals. “He has an amazing track record of longevity. The last time he failed to reach the finals was 1984. From 1990 to 1992, he missed the competition while at college in St. Lucia.”
The Calypso Semi-Finals are slated to begin at 8pm and will feature the following singers in the order below, along with their second-round song.
- Ozwald Carty – Ozzie Blue – Estranged
- Maggie Detouche – Maggi D – Evolution of Calypso
